The 10-year multiple-entry visa was canceled, according to the authorities, as part of the government’s efforts to reduce immigration following the post-COVID population boom.
The 10-year multiple-entry visa is no longer considered the “standard document,” according to a government update, even though it once permitted holders to enter and exit Canada without restriction.
“Guidance has been updated to indicate that multiple-entry visas issued to maximum validity are no longer considered to be the standard document,” the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) statement also stated.
The IRCC added that immigration officials now have the authority to choose whether to grant single-entry or multiple-entry visas and to establish how long they are valid.
The IRCC lowered the 2025 target from 500,000 to 395,000 permanent residents, as you may remember, in October of this year.
The goal will be reduced from 500,000 to 380,000 in 2026, and Canada intends to admit 365,000 permanent citizens in 2027.
