Tell Me About The Design without Borders Africa Design Fellowship Program:
Design without Borders (DwB) is a design consultancy based in Kampala, Uganda, focused on creating innovative product and service solutions using user-centered design approaches. DwB aims to support the growth of design talent across Sub-Saharan Africa, where formal technical training in design is limited. The biennial DwB Africa Design Fellowship offers a 4-month, project-based learning experience designed to teach participants how to use design as a tool for problem-solving. Fellows will gain hands-on experience in real-life design challenges, work with skilled designers, and engage in lectures on key design principles. At the end of the fellowship, outstanding candidates may be selected for full-time roles with DwB.
The training will tackle the following key thematic modules;
- Design & contextual influence
- Fundamentals of Industrial Product Design
- Fundamentals of Service and Systems Design
- The Human-Centred Design Approach
- Behavioral Science Application in Design
- Design & Innovation
- Community co-design
- Professional practice & work ethics

Also, interested applicants must ensure they meet the following criteria:
- Fellowship participants must have earned a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the fields of Design, Architecture, Engineering, Public Health and Sociology.
- A high level of critical thinking, creativity, and great teamwork abilities.
- Should have the capability to attend the program in Kampala, Uganda.
