The International Graduate Program at Saitama Universityโs Graduate School of Science and Engineering offers a unique opportunity for exceptional students to pursue a doctoral degree in engineering within the Energy System-Information Technology Innovation Professional Program. Covering a wide range of fields, including Materials Science, Electronics, Informatics, and Mechanical Engineering, the program allows students to start in April or October and requires three years of study to complete the PhD. All coursework, research supervision, exams, and presentations are conducted in English, and degrees awarded may be in Philosophy, Engineering, or Science, depending on the dissertation’s focus.

Who can Apply For The Saitama University MEXT PhD Scholarship?
Also, applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- Have or expect to have a Master’s Degree before enrollment.
- A national of a country that has diplomatic relations with the Japanese Government.
- Be under 35 years of age as of April 1st, 2025. (i.e. born on or after April 2nd, 1990)
- Have excellent academic achievements.
- Have a proof of oneโs English language proficiency, such as an indicative minimum score of an English language proficiency test taken within the past 2 years. (i.e. 72 for TOEFL (IBT)/5.5 for IELTS or equivalent to CEFR B2 Level).
- Be in both good mental and physical health.
- Be residing outside Japan at the time of application and not a holder of Japanese nationality.
- Be able to arrive in Japan on a date designated by Saitama University in the end of September 2025.
- Not an awardee of the Japanese Government Scholarship during the last three years

- Field of Study and Research Plan (Form B)
- Official Certificate of Grades from the most recent academic institution attended
- Official Certificate of Graduation or Expected Graduation from the most recent academic institution attended
- Abstract of thesis or graduation project/term paper from the most recent academic degree
- Copy of passport page showing name and date of birth, or a family register/residence certificate
- Certificate of English Proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent) or a letter confirming English as the medium of instruction
- Two Letters of Recommendation (one from the Dean or equivalent and one from a supervisor or equivalent)

Additionally, successful applicants will benefit the following:
- Coverage of application, admission, and tuition fees.
- Monthly allowance of 145,000 yen, with an additional regional allowance of 3,000 yen per month.
- Round-trip airfare is provided between the awardeeโs home country and Japan.
- Scholarship duration of up to three years, contingent on satisfactory academic performance (non-extendable).
