The Intra-Africa Mobility to Train Agribusiness and Food System Scientists for African Agriculture (TAFSA) program, is currently taking applications for its sixth cohort, which is supported by the European Union. Five African colleges are supporting this project, which intends to solve urgent problems with food security, malnutrition, poverty, and unemployment in Africa while promoting cooperation, skill development, and research excellence among African institutions.

The TAFSA (Intra-Africa Mobility to Train Agribusiness and Food System Scientists for African Agriculture) scholarships aim to strengthen collaboration between African universities, improve skills in agribusiness and food systems, and address critical issues such as food security, malnutrition, poverty, and unemployment in Africa. This program is funded by the European Union and involves five African universities.

Who Can Apply Intra Africa Postgraduate Scholarship in Agribusiness?

  1. Target Group I (TG-I):
    • Students and staff from participating universities in Benin, Mozambique, Uganda, and South Africa.
    • Applicants must be former students of these institutions.
  2. Target Group II (TG-II):
    • Students from other African countries, with preference for applicants from disadvantaged or conflict-affected countries such as Burundi, Cameroon, Liberia, Mali, and Sierra Leone.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least a second-class or equivalent.
  • Applications must be to a host institution outside the applicant’s home country.
  • Female applicants and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

How are Applicants Selected?

Applications are reviewed based on academic merit, eligibility criteria, and the alignment of the proposed study area with the program’s focus. Priority is given to applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds or conflict-affected countries.

Which Countries Are Eligible?

Applicants from all African countries, with priority for disadvantaged or conflict-affected nations.

  • Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique)
  • Gulu University (Uganda)
  • Makerere University (Uganda)
  • University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin)
  • University of Pretoria (South Africa)

How Many Awards?

56 scholarships:

  • 37 for Master’s students
  • 19 for PhD candidates
