- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good mental and physical health.
- For master’s programs, applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years of age.
- For doctoral programs, applicants should hold a master’s degree and be under 40 years of age.
- Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must have HSK Level 4 or equivalent.
- Applicants for English-taught programs must have TOEFL 90+ or IELTS 6.5+ (exemptions apply for native English speakers or those with English-taught degrees).
- Applicants must meet the academic and admission requirements of CPU.

Applicants are to submit the following documents:
- Copy of passport with validity through September 2025 or later.
- Notarized highest diploma (with official translations if not in English or Chinese).
- Academic transcripts (undergraduate and higher, sealed by the issuing institution).
- Language proficiency certificate (HSK or TOEFL/IELTS).
- Study plan of at least 1,000 words in English or Chinese, signed by a doctoral supervisor for PhD applicants.
- Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed within 6 months of submission.
- Non-criminal record certificate issued within 6 months of application.
- Provisional acceptance letter from a CPU professor (downloadable online).
