Tell Me About The Bartlett Promise Scholarship:
The Bartlett Promise represents a long-term commitment to attract and support students from a broader range of backgrounds to study at The Bartlett, in order to tackle the lack of diversity in the built environment sector. The scholarships cover fees, living and study costs for scholars, as well as professional and personal support and careers advice for the duration of their programme. Now, in its second year, the scheme currently supports 21 UK undergraduates, 13 Masterโs and 4 PhD students with help from our valued donors Jestico + Whiles, Derwent London and the Aziz Foundation.

Having established a unique UK focused scholarship which will grow with each successive year, The Bartlett are now extending their efforts internationally. Four scholarships will be open to students from Sub-Saharan Africa to join The Bartlett, with applications opening from 15 Feb 2023. The scholarships are open to nationals of 48 Sub-Saharan African countries who have an offer of a place on a Masterโs programme in any of The Bartlettโs nine schools, and are in financial need.

Who can apply for The Bartlett Promise Scholarship?
The Bartlett Promise aims to enable students from backgrounds which are underrepresented in The Bartlett, to pursue postgraduate studies at The Bartlett, UCLโs Faculty of the Built Environment. For The Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan African scholarship, candidates must:
- be a national of one of The Bartlettโs approved listย of Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countriesย and resident in an eligible SSA country
- must not hold a British or dual British citizenship
- have an offer of admission to a Bartlett masterโs programme for study in 2025/256 which iis eitherย unconditionalย orย conditional only on English language
- be in financial need as assessed by UCLย
In addition to these, candidates should ideally also meet at least one of the additional criteria:
- be a forced migrant
- be the first generation in the family to attend university at undergraduate level
- be the first generation in family to attend university at postgraduate level

How are Applicants Selected?
We will consider your educational, personal and financial circumstances. You will need to demonstrate these in your application. Assessment of applications will be made in relation to the eligibility criteria.

What is the Benefit of The Bartlett Promise Scholarship?
Full overseas tuition fees, an annual allowance of ยฃ16,008 to cover living and study expenses for the normal duration of the programme at UCL. In addition: a flight to/from the UK, UK Study Visa costs, English language assessment costs, health test costs and the NHS Immigration Health Supplement charge. All Promise scholars will also receive on-going academic and career support during their study.
