The Brunel University of London opens its online applications for several fully funded PhD programs and posts in a variety of research fields in the UK.

Interested candidates can review the materials and apply as soon as possible for fully funded PhD places. The University’s Online Application Portal is where interested and qualified candidates can apply online for PhD programs.

#1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Education:

Brunel University London is pleased to invite applications for studentships in Education, offered through the ESRC-funded Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership (GUDTP).

Brunel DTP students on the Education pathway will join the Department of Education. Education at Brunel is a leading department in the UK offering the full range of provision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In common with the university as a whole, the department has a rich ethnic mix among its student population and attracts a significant proportion of students from outside the European Union. The Education Department is ranked in the top 5 in London (Complete University Guide, 2024) 1st in London, and 3rd in the UK for education graduate jobs and further study (LEO 2023).

#2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Next-Gen Aluminium Alloys: Pioneering Crash Safety & Strength for Electric Vehicles

This PhD project will focus on the study of alloying additions and their effects on the extrusion process of high-performance automotive aluminum alloys, using advanced physical thermomechanical simulation techniques. Specifically, you will use the state-of-the-art Gleeble 3800-GTC thermal-mechanical physical simulation system to simulate extrusion processing and optimize the microstructure and texture of aluminum alloys. These insights will help improve crash safety and strength, contributing to the development of next-generation materials for automotive applications.

#3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Atomic Level Investigations of Precipitation Kinetics in AA6xxx Series Aluminium Alloys

This project is sponsored by Constellium, a global leading manufacturer of high-quality, technically advanced aluminum products and systems. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work alongside our industrial partners and contribute to Constellium’s strategic R&D aims. This includes a 3-month work placement within Constellium’s international business.

The project aim is to establish a greater understanding of the impact of alloying additions (e.g., Cu, Sn, In, etc.) on the natural aging retardation and precipitation kinetics of AA6xxx Al-alloys and, also, to understand, step-by-step, the entire thermomechanical processing through advanced high-resolution TEM investigations.

#6. Fully Funded PhD Position

The Wapping Post lies within the News International Dispute Archive of the Marx Memorial Library Printworkers’ Collection. Almost half a million copies of the Wapping Post were written, produced, and distributed during and just after the dispute involving printworkers and journalists sacked by Rupert Murdoch’s News International in 1986. The research project will investigate 1) the production practices of the Wapping Post, 2) analyze its modes of representation and innovation, 3) compare the Wapping Post’s coverage of the strike with other publications within the trade union movement and the left as well as the dominant press media, and 4) situate the Wapping Post in the context of the then contemporaneous debates led by the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom on media accountability and democracy.
