The Nyerere Scholarship is an initiative by the Centre of African Studies at the University of Edinburgh, established to honour the legacy of Julius Nyerere. It offers full tuition fees and an annual stipend to support talented Tanzanian graduates pursuing an MSc in Africa and International Development. Launched in 2020, the scholarship commemorates President J.K. Nyerere’s scholarly achievements and provides an opportunity for academically exceptional Tanzanian students to study in a multidisciplinary environment at the University of Edinburgh.

Also, the eligibility criteria include:

  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen domiciled in Tanzania.
  • Graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam within the last three years (2022–2024) or graduating in 2025.
  • Accepted into the full-time MSc in Africa and International Development programme.
  • Hold or expect to obtain a UK first class or 2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in a Humanities or Social Science subject.
