Edinburgh Futures Institute is proud to open calls for our Visiting Fellowship programme, for visits in the 2025/26 academic year. In this dynamic academic environment, our visitors will be able to interact with other fellows, researchers affiliated with the Futures Institute, our partners from the business and third sector, and our students. Fellows will be able to take part in our seminars and events programmes, and be able to access our training courses, making for a highly enriching experience.

The Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) Visiting Fellowship Programme offers international researchers an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research and collaboration at the University of Edinburgh. Fellows will join a vibrant academic community focused on tackling global challenges and shaping innovative futures.

Which Fields are Eligible?

Research should align with one or more of the following areas:

  • Creative Industries & Digital Humanities
  • Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence
  • Financial Services & Fintech
  • Future Infrastructure
  • Public Sector (prevention, data civics, participatory democracy, governance)
  • Tourism & Festivals

Who can Apply for Visiting Fellowship Programme?

Applicants must:

  • Hold an open-ended academic position at an institution.
  • Have research aligned with EFI’s focus areas.
    Special consideration will be given to candidates from Low or Middle-Income Countries and underrepresented groups.

How are Applicants Selected?

Selection will be based on:

  • Research experience and career stage.
  • Alignment with EFI’s research themes.
  • Contributions to interdisciplinary and data-driven research.

Which Countries Are Eligible?

All countries are eligible, with priority given to applicants from Low or Middle-Income Countries or underrepresented groups.
