The Prof Donald Li YDM Scholarship aims to enhance access to the WONCA World Conference for young doctors from low- and middle-income countries. By providing financial support for conference registration, travel, visa costs, and accommodation, this scholarship empowers emerging healthcare professionals to engage in vital discussions, share knowledge, and expand their networks. Through this scholarship we strive to strengthen the global primary care workforce and foster the professional development of future leaders in healthcare.

The Prof Donald Li Global YDM Scholarship provides financial assistance to young doctors from low- and middle-income countries, enabling them to attend the WONCA World Conference 2025 in Lisbon. The scholarship fosters the professional development of young family medicine doctors and promotes the advancement of primary care globally.

Which Fields are Eligible?

The scholarship is specifically for professionals in family medicine training or practice within the first five years.

Professional Development Scholarship.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, applicants must:

  1. Be from a low- or middle-income country as classified by the World Bank.
  2. Be a Young Doctor, as defined by the YDM operational guidelines (in family medicine training or the first five years of practice).
  3. Be an active member of their regional Young Doctor Movement (YDM) with a supporting letter from the regional YDM lead.
  4. Show a strong commitment to attending the conference and contributing to the development of family medicine.

How are Applicants Selected?

Selection is based on:

  • Residency and professional eligibility.
  • Engagement with YDM and their contribution to the field of primary care.
  • Submitted application materials, including a video introduction, CV, and references.

Which Countries are Eligible?

Applicants must come from countries classified as low- or middle-income economies by the World Bank.

Where will the Award be Taken?

At the WONCA World Conference 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal.

How Many Awards?

Three (03) scholarships are available.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Each awardee will receive $2,500 USD, covering:

  • Conference registration.
  • Travel costs.
  • Visa fees.
  • Accommodation.

How Long Will the Award Last?

The scholarship provides one-time support for the WONCA World Conference 2025, including the YDM Preconference on 16-17 September 2025.
