Tell Me About The TechForward Policy Fellowship:

The TechForward Policy Fellowship is a three-month hybrid program offered by the Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACDT). It is designed to empower early and mid-career professionals to shape Africa’s digital future by equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and networks necessary to develop innovative, sustainable, and inclusive digital policies. The program includes expert workshops, policy clinics, mentorship, a capstone project, and a fully funded in-person policy conference.

The following fields are eligible: 

  • Technology
  • Public policy
  • Economics
  • Social sciences with a focus on digital transformation.

Who can Apply for the TechForward Policy Fellowship?

Also, before applying, ensure you meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be 18–30 years old at the time of application.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or relevant IT certification.
  • Be citizens of an African country (residents abroad are eligible).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English (written and verbal).
  • Have experience or interest in digital policies, advocacy, or related fields.
  • Commit to participating in fellowship activities (4+ hours per week)

How are Applicants Selected?

  • Alignment of the applicant’s goals with the fellowship objectives.
  • Quality and relevance of the Project Abstract.
  • Professional and academic background in technology, policy, or related fields.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Commitment to active participation in all fellowship activities.

You’re also to prepare to submit the following documents:

  • A Personal Statement (200 words or a 2-minute video) outlining interest in digital policies and fellowship goals.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) (1 page maximum).
  • A Project Abstract (1 page) addressing a digital-policy issue in Africa under one of the fellowship’s tracks:
    • Legal and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
    • Cybersecurity and Data Protection
    • Digital Public Infrastructure & ICT Infrastructure
    • Green and Digital-Twin Transition
