The Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS) program is funded by Global Affairs Canada. It enables Canadian post-secondary institutions to host talented international students for short-term study or research exchanges, fostering global academic connections, strengthening bilateral ties, and enhancing cultural exchanges between Canada and participating countries.

Which Fields are Eligible?

The scholarship supports studies or research across diverse academic disciplines, as determined by the student’s home institution and the Canadian host institution.

Type:

Short-term, fully funded scholarship for study or research exchanges at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Who can Apply?

Eligible candidates must:

  • Be citizens of one of the eligible countries/territories (see below).
  • Be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in their home country.
  • Pay tuition fees to their home institution for the duration of the scholarship program.

Candidates are not eligible if they:

  • Hold or have applied for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Are already enrolled in a program at a Canadian institution.
  • Are part of a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada.

How are Applicants Selected?

Applications are evaluated based on:

  • Merit of the proposed study or research.
  • Potential benefits to the home institution and peers.
  • Potential benefits to the Canadian host institution and peers.
  • Strength of linkages to be created.
  • Rankings provided by the Canadian institution.

Priority is given to candidates who have not previously received a scholarship under SICS.

How Many Awards?

The number of awards depends on funding availability and applications submitted by Canadian institutions.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Award value and benefits include:

  • College/Undergraduate: $10,200 (4 months)
  • Graduate (4 months): $10,200
  • Graduate (5-6 months): $12,700

Eligible expenses covered:

  • Visa or study/work permit fees.
  • Airfare (most direct and economical route).
  • Health insurance.
  • Living expenses (accommodation, utilities, food).
  • Ground transportation (public transport pass).
  • Books and supplies (excluding computers).

Canadian institutions hosting recipients receive $500 per student to cover administrative costs.
