Tell Me About The JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Program:
The JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is a collaborative initiative between the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). It provides promising young researchers, especially from developing countries, the opportunity to conduct advanced research in sustainability under the mentorship of host researchers at universities and research institutions across Japan. Since its inception in 1996, the programme has supported over 250 researchers, contributing significantly to multidisciplinary knowledge and policymaking in sustainability. Fellows benefit from conducting policy-relevant research that aligns with thematic programmes of UNU-IAS while fostering collaboration with Japanese scholars.

Who can Apply For The JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Program?
Also, the eligibility criteria include:
- Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (received on or after April 2, 2019) or be scheduled to receive one by July 2025.
- Maternity/paternity leave is considered, with four weeks counted as one month.
- Applicants must be citizens of countries with diplomatic relations with Japan.
- Japanese nationals, dual citizens, permanent residents of Japan, or those previously awarded JSPS Fellowships for Research in Japan are not eligible
