Tell Me About The MUTA Education Scholarship For Nigerian Students:

The MUTA Education Scholarship Program is a merit-based initiative designed to support undergraduate students pursuing degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), medicine, and allied medical fields. Organized by the MUTA Education Committee, this scholarship aims to promote academic excellence and empower students from Tiv-speaking LGAs in Benue State, as well as Taraba and Nasarawa states. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, research expenses, or other academic costs, helping recipients achieve their educational and career goals.

Who can Apply For The MUTA Education Scholarship For Nigerian Students?

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students in STEM, medicine, or allied medical fields.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of:
    • 3.5 on a 5.0 scale (Second Class Upper equivalent).
    • 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Provide a Certificate of Origin from their State or Local Government.
  • Reside in one of the following:
    • Tiv-speaking LGAs in Benue State.
    • Taraba State.
    • Nasarawa State.

Note: Applicants who do not meet the CGPA requirement will not be considered.

Required Supporting documents

  • Personal Statement: A two-page, double-spaced essay explaining why you deserve this award. Include details about your: academic history and accomplishments, community service involvement, and career goals as well as financial need.
  • Certificate of Origin: A document from your State or Local Government confirming your origin.
  • CGPA Certification Form: A signed letter from your institutionโ€™s Academic Officer or Head of Department verifying your CGPA. (The required form is available for download in the section below the application form.)

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants will be evaluated based on:

  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) โ€“ 60%.
  • Personal Statement โ€“ 40% (judged on academic accomplishments, community service, career goals, and financial need).
  • Authenticity โ€“ Applications with falsified information will be disqualified.

Which Countries Are Eligible?

The scholarship is open to students from Nigeria, specifically from Tiv-speaking LGAs in Benue State, Taraba State, and Nasarawa State.

How Many Awards?

The program will award 16 scholarships:

  • One recipient from each of the 14 Tiv-speaking LGAs in Benue State.
  • One recipient each from Taraba and Nasarawa states.

Additionally, recipients will receive:

  • Financial assistance for tuition, fees, research expenses, or other educational costs.

Notes

  • Applicants must submit all required materials by the deadline. Incomplete or falsified applications will be disqualified.
  • Successful applicants will be notified via email in June 2025. The recipientsโ€™ names will also be published on the MUTA website and social media platforms.
  • Scholarship awards will be presented at a ceremony in July or August 2025.
  • Recipients must consent to the use of their images for promotional purposes.
