Tell Me About The West African Research Center (WARC) Travel Grant Program:

The WARC Travel Grant aims to foster intra-African academic collaboration by supporting West African scholars and graduate students in conducting research visits across the continent. It provides funding to cover travel costs (up to $1,500) and a stipend of $1,500. The grant enables researchers to access libraries and archives, collaborate with colleagues at African institutions, or conduct field research at sites within Africa. The program is funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, through a grant from the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

  • Project/Research description (max. 6 double-spaced pages) explaining why travel is essential.
  • Proposed budget outlining expected expenses.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV) including research and teaching experience.
  • Photocopy of the applicantโ€™s passport (must be a West African national).
  • Recommendation letter from a professor (if a graduate student) or a research colleague.
  • Additional documents depending on the purpose of travel:
    • If visiting another institution: Invitation letter from the host institution.
    • If consulting archives/materials: Description of collections and their relevance to the research.
