The fellowships prioritize applicants from less developed and underfunded countries and aim to promote gender and regional diversity in neuroscience. The fellowship must be international, with the host laboratory located in a different country than the applicant’s home institution. The fellowship begins in 2025, and the required grant report must be submitted no later than 3 months following the conclusion of the exchange.

Who can Apply For The (IBRO) Exchange Fellowships?
Also, to be eligible for the IBRO Exchange Fellowships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- PhD neuroscience students or early career postdoctoral fellows (maximum 5 years from the start of the postdoc).
- Applicants must reside in one of the following regions:
- Asia-Pacific
- Latin America
- Africa
- US/Canada
- Applicants from Europe should apply to the dedicated FENS/IBRO-PERC Exchange Fellowships program.
How are Applicants Selected?Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Scientific Credentials: A strong academic record and relevant work experience in the applicant’s field.
- Quality of Research Proposal: The proposed research should reflect high standards, with clear aims and a structured plan.
- Quality and Commitment of Host Lab: The host lab must have a good reputation and commit to supporting the proposed research, including matching research funds.
- Letters of Reference: Two reference letters supporting the applicant’s suitability, with one ideally coming from the head of the department where the applicant is starting their laboratory.
- Benefit for the Applicant & Value to Home Lab: The applicant must justify the need for the fellowship and explain its value to their home lab, such as through knowledge transfer or collaboration

- A completed application form.
- A research proposal detailing the project for which IBRO support is requested.

- A budget request with a detailed breakdown of proposed funding.
- An official host acceptance letter confirming the willingness of the host supervisor to accept the applicant.
- Two letters of reference supporting the application.
- A CV (curriculum vitae).
