Tell Me About The University of Bonn SDG Fellowships:
The Bonn SDG Fellowships are designed to invite international postdoctoral researchers to collaborate with a professor at the University of Bonn on research related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The fellowship provides an opportunity for scholars from Africa, Latin America, and South/East Asia to contribute to research and teaching in one of these regions. The goal is to foster international collaboration, strengthen networks, and support research that addresses the SDGs.

Who can Apply for the University of Bonn SDG Fellowships?
To be. eligible, ensure you meet the following criteria:
- Postdoctoral researchers with foreign citizenship.
- Must have a long-term affiliation at a university or research institute in Africa, Latin America, or South/East Asia.
- Proven expertise in an area related to the SDGs.
- The fellow must be invited by a professor at the University of Bonn for a joint research project.
Selection Criteria
- Academic Quality and Mutual Benefit (50%): Quality of the research project, its contribution to the SDGs, relevance to the region of origin, and the fellow’s integration into academic life at the University of Bonn.
- Strategic Relevance and Potential for Future Cooperation (50%): Intensity of existing cooperation, potential for long-term research relationships, and how the research aligns with Bonn’s research profile.
- Priority will be given to the “Academic Quality and Mutual Benefit” category in case of a tie.

Applicants are also to submit the following documents:
- Online application form.
- Project description (PDF) of a maximum of 8 pages, including:
- Abstract (up to 250 words).
- Research project outline.
- Reasons for the fellow’s invitation and expected contribution to the University of Bonn.
- Overview of collaboration between applicant and fellow.
- Integration into the host institute.
- Plan for future collaboration and research outcomes.
- Fellow’s CV (PDF).
- Financing plan (Excel file, downloadable).

Africa, Latin America, and South/East Asia.
Where the Award Will Be Taken:
The award will take place at the University of Bonn in Germany.
How Many Awards?
- Up to five projects may be funded, depending on the requested amounts.
- Approval rate in 2021: 35 proposals, with 3 grants awarded.
What is the Benefit of the Award?
Additionally, the benefits include:
- Travel allowance (depending on country of origin).
- Scholarship of €3,000 per month.
- Additional funds for family members: up to €300 for a spouse, and €250 per child.
- Research expense allowance of up to €500 per month.
- Insurance benefits are not included.
How Long Will the Award Last:
- The funding is for a period of at least 3 months and no more than 12 months.
How to Apply:
- The application must be submitted by a full-time professor at the University of Bonn together with the fellow.
- Note: The University of Bonn does not provide matching services for fellows and professors.
