The Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM), in collaboration with DAAD’s Graduate School Scholarship Program (GSSP), offers up to four fully funded PhD positions for international candidates in life sciences. The program provides financial support for up to four years, contingent upon successful academic progress.

Who can Apply?
- Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in life sciences or an equivalent field.
- Must have an excellent academic record.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months before nomination.
- Should not have graduated more than six years before nomination (exceptions apply per DAAD guidelines).
- Must not have previously completed a PhD.

How are Applicants Selected?
The selection process consists of multiple stages:
- Initial Application to SGBM – Candidates submit an online application.
- Online Interviews – Shortlisted candidates undergo interviews.
- Nomination for DAAD GSSP – Selected candidates are nominated.
- Final DAAD Application – Nominees submit a separate application via the DAAD portal.
- Final Decision by DAAD – DAAD makes the final selection and administers scholarships.
