Tell Me About The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) Non-Resident Fellowship:

The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) Nonresident Fellowship Program is designed to support advocates, researchers, journalists, and lawyers whose work aligns with TIMEP’s mission of fostering transparent, accountable, and just societies. The fellowship provides a platform for professionals from or connected to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to produce solutions-oriented analysis, engage in policy discussions, and participate in a vibrant network of experts.

The program allows fellows to work on a specific mandate throughout the fellowship year, covering a proposed topic and geographic focus. Fellows will have the opportunity to drive discourse through media, policy, and event engagements while accessing targeted skill-building opportunities and mentorship.

Fellowship mandates must fall within at least one of the following broader areas of focus:

  • Energy & Environment
  • Development & Economy
  • Law & Accountability
  • Governance & Politics
  • Social Movements
  • Gender & Sexuality
  • Religious & Ethnic Minorities
  • Migration & Displacement
  • Arts & Culture
  • Media & Press
  • Security & Conflict

Who can Apply For The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) Non-Resident Fellowship?

Furthermore, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • At least five years of relevant work or academic experience in a field related to the proposed area of focus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Demonstrated commitment to TIMEP’s mission and principles.
  • Connectivity to civil society, grassroots groups, and/or experts and advocates on the ground.
  • Preference will be given to candidates living or working in the MENA region.

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants will be selected based on:

  • Relevance and impact of the proposed mandate.
  • Alignment with TIMEP’s areas of focus and mission.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in the proposed field.
  • Ability to contribute to policy discussions and advocacy efforts.
  • Strong connection to civil society, grassroots movements, and experts in the region.

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Cover letter (including the applicant’s proposed mandate and a brief explanation of the topic and its importance).

Which Countries Are Eligible?

The following countries are eligible:

  • Tunisia
  • Egypt
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Lebanon

However, proposals covering other countries in North Africa and the Levant are also welcome.

Where will the Award be Taken?

The fellowship is nonresident, meaning fellows can participate from their country of residence.
