The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is dedicated to empowering civil society across the region by enhancing institutional, operational, and knowledge capacities. As a hub for training, research, policy dialogue, and documentation, WACSI plays a crucial role in fostering the growth and effectiveness of civil society organisations (CSOs).
For the 2025 Research Fellowship, WACSI prioritizes documenting indigenous knowledge practices relevant to civil society. These knowledge systems, beliefs, and innovations, passed down through generations, are invaluable for enhancing the impact and sustainability of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and CSOs.

- Shift the power movement
- Enabling environment for civil society
- Leadership and succession planning for CSOs
- Equitable partnerships between CSOs and donors
- Capacity strengthening for civil society in West Africa

Key Outcomes
- Production of at least two publishable research reports or policy documents, which may include:
- Issue Papers
- Op-Ed articles
- Blog posts
- Contribution to ongoing research conducted or commissioned by WACSI
- Documentation of best practices, case studies, and success stories in a structured format, ensuring clarity and accessibility for broader audiences.
Duration: May – October 2025 (6 months)
Fellowship timelines will be aligned with the applicant’s academic, career, and research interests. Flexible start dates may be discussed based on individual circumstances.
