Who can Apply for the Southeast University SEU Scholarship?

To be considered for the SEU Scholarship 2025, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health.
  • Undergraduate applicants: Must have a high school diploma and be under 25 years old.
  • Master’s applicants: Must hold a bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old.
  • Doctoral applicants: Must possess a master’s degree and be under 40 years old.

Language proficiency:

  • Chinese-taught programs: HSK 4 (or HSK 5 for medical, MTCSOL, and economics programs). If the required HSK level is not met, one year of language study is required.
  • English-taught programs: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 (if English is not the applicant’s native or official language).
  • Must submit two recommendation letters.
  • A research proposal (minimum 800 words) is required for master’s and doctoral applicants.
  • Doctoral applicants and master’s applicants in Medical or Economic & Management majors must obtain a letter of acceptance from an SEU supervisor.

Applicants will be assessed based on:

  • Academic excellence and previous educational background.
  • Research potential, especially for master’s and doctoral applicants.
  • Language proficiency in Chinese or English, depending on the program.
  • Completeness and authenticity of application materials—any false information will result in disqualification.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Passport (valid for more than one year; if currently in China, include visa/resident permit copies).
  • Certificate of highest degree (or pre-graduation certificate for those yet to complete their degree, with the final degree to be obtained by September 15, 2025).
  • Official academic transcripts.
  • HSK certificate (for Chinese-taught programs) or TOEFL/IELTS certificate (for English-taught programs).
  • Two recommendation letters.
  • Research proposal (minimum 800 words) for master’s and doctoral applicants.
  • Letter of acceptance from a supervisor (compulsory for doctoral applicants and master’s applicants in Medical or Economic & Management fields).
  • Physical Examination Record of Foreigners (within six months).
  • Certificate of No Criminal Conviction.
  • Additional materials for certain programs (e.g., architecture applicants must submit a portfolio).
  • All documents must be in Chinese or English, or accompanied by a notarized translation.
