The Nigeria Prize for Science is an annual award established by NLNG in 2004 to recognize and celebrate scientific excellence. It honors scientists and innovators from around the world who develop groundbreaking solutions to critical problems that can be applied in Nigeria. The 2025 edition focuses on “Innovations in ICT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Technologies for Development.” The winning entry must advance knowledge and demonstrate practical solutions for a significant societal impact. The winner(s) will receive USD 100,000.

Who can Apply for the NLNG Nigeria Prize for Science?

Also, the eligibility criteria include:

  • Open to scientists and innovators worldwide (Nigerians and non-Nigerians).
  • Entries must demonstrate the application of science in ICT, AI, and digital technologies.
  • The submission must be a completed scientific work, supported by either a proof of concept or evidence of significant societal impact.
  • Only one entry per individual or group is allowed.
  • Members of the Advisory Board, Panel of Judges, and their relatives are not eligible during their tenure and one year after.
  • NLNG staff and their family members cannot apply during service and five years post-service.

How are Applicants Selected?

  • Scientific merit: The work should be outstanding and contribute new knowledge or innovation in ICT, AI, and digital technologies.
  • Societal impact: The work must be supported by a proof of concept demonstrating practical application.
  • Relevance: The entry must address a critical problem that benefits Nigeria.
