The Coimbra Group is accepting applications for its 2025 Short Stay Scholarship Programme, designed to support young African researchers from Sub-Saharan universities. This initiative offers scholars the opportunity to undertake a short-term research visit at a participating Coimbra Group university in Europe, typically ranging from 1 to 3 months.
Application Deadline:
All applications must be submitted by March 31, 2025, at midnight (Brussels time).

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet all the following requirements:
- Age: Born on or after January 1, 1980.
- Nationality and Residency: Nationals of and current residents in a Sub-Saharan African country.
- Professional Status: Current staff members of a university or equivalent higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Academic Level: Preferably holding a doctoral or postdoctoral position, or an equivalent status.
- Acceptance Letter: Possession of an acceptance letter or email from a supervisor at the host Coimbra Group University, confirming their willingness to collaborate during the proposed research stay.
- Application Process: Submission of the application through the Coimbra Group Office’s electronic system.
- University Selection: Application to only one university; multiple applications will be invalid.
- Language: All application materials must be submitted in English.

How to Apply:
- Identify a Supervisor: Applicants must secure a commitment from an academic supervisor at the intended host university. If you lack existing contacts, it’s advisable to explore the university’s official website or reach out to the designated contact person listed in the programme’s brochure.
- Obtain an Acceptance Letter: A mandatory component of the application is a letter or email from the prospective supervisor, indicating their willingness to oversee your research during the stay.
- Submit the Application: Complete and submit the online application form, ensuring all required information and documents are included. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Important Considerations:
- Single Application: Applicants may apply to only one university. Submitting applications to multiple institutions will result in disqualification.
- Stay Duration: The specific dates of the research stay should be coordinated between the applicant and the host supervisor, typically falling within the academic year 2025/2026.
- Language Proficiency: While many host universities offer the possibility to conduct research in English, it’s essential to verify the working language requirements of the chosen institution.
