The Finnish Immigration Service announces that anyone who intends to work in Finland later this year can now apply for seasonal work permits. Before entering the nation, migrant workers who want to engage in seasonal employment like berry harvesting must apply for the necessary permit.
In Finland, seasonal labor comprises jobs in tourism, forestry, and agriculture that last up to nine months out of a 12-month period.
The length of employment determines the kind of permission needed.
If they are from a nation that requires a visa, individuals who are working for less than three months must apply for a seasonal work visa at a Finnish consulate. Instead, applicants from nations that do not require visas can apply to the Finnish Immigration Service for a certificate for seasonal work.
Workers must apply for a residence visa for seasonal work prior to their arrival in Finland if their employment will last three to nine months. All permissions can take up to 90 days to process.
Before applying, candidates must have a job and a written contract with a Finnish employer. Unless a collective agreement specifies otherwise, wages must adhere to the minimum threshold of โฌ1,430 per month. Employees are also required to set up accommodations that adhere to Finnish safety and health regulations.
Foreign wild berry pickers must now have official employment contracts due to recent legislation changes. Fair working conditions and the avoidance of exploitation are the goals of this measure.
The Finnish government will keep an eye on how these changes are affecting the industry and may take other steps to control it.
