Alex Otti Foundation invites applications for the 2024/2025 Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme. This initiative supports academically outstanding students who are ancestrally from/or currently residing in Abia State, helping them pursue their educational goals. Apply below:ย

This scholarship has become one of the most prestigious scholarship programmes in Abia State, with over 300 students currently benefiting from the program. It is awarded based on academic excellence, leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to societal development. Recipients are expected to leverage their education to contribute positively to their communities. The Foundation envisions a strong network of scholars who will drive positive change in Abia State, Nigeria and the world.

Who can Apply for the Alex Otti Foundation Scholarships?

Applicants are to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be students who have completed their second-semester 100-level examinations and are progressing to 200-level or those admitted in the 2022/2023 session.
  • Students who have secured direct entry admission into 200-level and will be in their second year by April 2025 are also eligible.
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum CGPA of 3.5 (on a 5.0 scale) or its equivalent in their first year of study.
  • Candidates must be ancestrally from or currently residing in Abia State.
  • Siblings of current Alex Otti Foundation scholars are ineligible until their sibling’s scholarship tenure is completed. However, siblings of past graduates are eligible.

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants are selected based on:

  • Academic excellence, demonstrated by a CGPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Leadership potential.
  • A demonstrated commitment to societal development, as reflected in their essay submission.
  • The application process considers the studentโ€™s residency status in Abia State and other supporting documents.

Required documents

Applicants are to submit the following documents: 

  • Statement of Result: Signed statement of results for the first academic session from the Department or Faculty Admin Officer (or representative of the Registrar). Direct entry applicants must provide their qualifying examination results.
  • Proof of Residency: A letter of recognition from a community/religious leader or a utility bill covering the three months preceding the interview, to confirm residency in Abia State.
  • Essay Submission (1,200 words): Applicants must write an essay covering the following topics, dedicating 400 words to each:
    1. How the current Nigerian economic situation has affected them and their families.
    2. What the three tiers of government can do to improve the economy, with a focus on significant sectors.
    3. A proposed social welfare programme for underprivileged undergraduate students, outlining its benefits, anticipated impact, and possible challenges.
  • Valid Identification: A recognized means of identification must be provided.
