The ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Program offers an opportunity for South African youth to pursue a tertiary qualification in the creative and performing arts. The program supports school leavers who need financial assistance to study at South African tertiary or accredited institutions. The scholarship covers registration fees, tuition fees, and study materials (up to R5,000 per year), offering students an invaluable experience of working with other aspiring artists from diverse backgrounds. The program includes bi-weekly workshops and a finals week in Johannesburg, with meals, travel, and accommodation covered for finalists.

Who can Apply for the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship?

The eligibility criteria include:

  • Between the ages of 17 – 25 years old.
  • Currently in Grade 12 OR have university exemption.
  • Need financial assistance to pursue a qualification in performing or visual arts as a South African tertiary/accredited institution, for studies commencing in 2026.
  • Not currently registered at a tertiary institution/accredited institution for the 2025 academic year.
  • Do not have an existing tertiary qualification in an arts/creative discipline from a South African tertiary/accredited institution.
  • Not considered a professional artist – (have specialized training/and or employed full time in their artistic discipline).
  • Not a 2024 ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Program participant or finalist.
  • Willing and able to commit to the 6-month duration of the program.
  • A South African citizen. 

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants are selected based on their submission of required documents and their talent in their respective creative fields. Performers must submit a video showcasing their discipline, while visual artists must submit a portfolio of their original works along with a short bio and artist statement. The selection process involves the submission of these materials along with academic records.

  • Previous semester/last academic results
  • A signed consent form, which can be downloaded here.
  • Headshot
  • 1 x Video (Performing Arts) OR 4 x Portfolio pictures (Visual Arts)

What is the Benefit of the Award?
