Tell Me About The UNFCCC Fellowship Program:

The UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) is offering the Capacity Award Programme to Advance Capabilities and Institutional Training in one Year (CAPACITY) Fellowship Programme, thanks to funding from the Government of Italy. The fellowship aims to develop the capacity of climate change negotiators, thereby enhancing the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The fellowship supports professionals from Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) by promoting innovative climate solutions and fostering leadership potential in their fields.

Who can Apply for the UNFCCC Fellowship Program?

Also, the eligibility criteria include:

  • Applicants must be mid-career professionals employed in government institutions (national, regional, provincial, or local), educational institutions, research institutes, or ministries.
  • Applicants must be nationals of and working in one of the eligible SIDS or LDC countries.
  • Applicants should be no more than 40 years old at the closing date of the Fellowship.
  • The position requires the candidate to be employed in a governmental organization and have the relevant experience in climate action and policy development.

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants are selected based on their qualifications, relevant experience, and alignment with the fellowshipโ€™s goals. The selection process includes an assessment of technical/professional knowledge, followed by an interview to assess skills and aptitudes. Candidates must also obtain written permission from their employer for leave of absence during the fellowship and provide certifications related to the fellowshipโ€™s relevance to their organization.

  • Permission from the employer for a leave of absence during the fellowship period
  • Written certification that the knowledge acquired during the fellowship will be integrated into the organization’s climate activities
  • Written confirmation from the employer that the position aligns with the organizationโ€™s needs
  • Resume or CV
  • Additional documents as requested through the application portal
