Who can Apply for the University of British Columbia Scholarships?

Also, the eligibility criteria include:

• Applicants must be new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school or post-secondary (university or college).
• Applicants must be international students who will study at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa).
• Applicants must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and strong extracurricular involvement.
• For the International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES), applicants must not be nominated for the need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.
• For the Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award, applicants must not be nominated for the need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants are evaluated based on their academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and community engagement. The selection is competitive, with scholarship evaluations happening after admission decisions are made. Recipients will be notified by mid-March to the end of April.

How Long Will the Award Last?

• The IMES is renewable for up to three additional years of study, provided the student maintains eligibility.
• The OIS Award is a one-time entrance scholarship.

Applicants will be automatically considered for merit-based awards when they apply for admission to UBC. No separate application is required. The scholarship decisions are made based on the applicant’s academic and personal profile after receiving an offer of admission to UBC.
