Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the National Youth Service Corps’ (NYSC) Director General, has promised corps members that the new N77,000 monthly allowance will take effect in March 2025.
During an interactive session with corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja, the DG assured them while restating the Federal Government’s and NYSC’s dedication to corps members’ well-being.

Under the new Minimum Wage of N70,000, which President Bola Tinubu approved in July 2024 after an increase to N33,000 in 2019 and a review of the Minimum Wage to N30,000, the NYSC announced months ago that the allowance would be increased from N33,000 to N77,000.
Under the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, the NYSC said in a statement signed by Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, that the approval of N77,000 was contained in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

Brigadier-General Nafiu emphasized that the corpers’ well-being remained a top priority and urged them to stay calm, dedicated, focused, and disciplined in their service to the nation.
“With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record-keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the Scheme appreciate you,” he stated.
He also praised the NYSC’s founders’ vision, calling the program a vital institution that promotes national cohesion by introducing graduates to various cultures throughout Nigeria. He gave corps members the assurance that each new group would be instilled with characteristics like discipline, leadership, teamwork, and patriotism by NYSC management.
Speaking on behalf of her peers at the Garki Zone, Corps Member Zaka Deborah Alheri, FC/24A/5831, thanked the Director General for his dedication to making sure their enhanced allowance was paid on schedule.
