The Finance Senior Officer (FSO) will be a key person with responsibilities across the finance department. The FSO role provides specialist services to operations, projects and clinical trials and the implementation of the company’s financial management strategy, with a strong emphasis on donor financial management, budgeting, procurement and general accounting activities.

GARDP Africa is a not-for-profit organization based in Cape Town, South Africa, supporting the Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership (GARDP). The organization accelerates the development and access to treatments for drug-resistant bacterial infections by collaborating with public, private, and non-profit partners.

Job Overview:

The Finance Senior Officer (FSO) will play a key role in financial management, donor reporting, budgeting, procurement, and accounting activities. The role involves ensuring accurate financial reporting, budget monitoring, and compliance with donor requirements while supporting projects and clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Donor Reporting & Proposals

  • Assist in donor financial reporting, ensuring accurate allocation of costs.
  • Support project leads in preparing donor proposals.
  • Manage donor-related financial queries and income recognition at year-end.
  • Maintain donor information on Salesforce.

2. Budgeting

  • Assist in the twice-yearly budgeting process with the Operations Lead.
  • Ensure budget consolidation on Tagetik Budget System.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Support budget holders with variance analysis and financial queries.
  • Provide training on Tagetik and the GARDP budgeting process.

3. General Accounting Activities

  • Process accounts payable and ensure timely payments.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and manage credit card transactions.
  • Process salary journals on Business Central system.
  • Assist in year-end closing, balance sheet reconciliation, and audits.

4. Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and financial policies.
  • Support implementation of financial IT tools and systems.

5. Other Responsibilities

  • Act as a finance point of contact for GARDP Africa.
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders, including donors, banks, suppliers, and regulatory institutions.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in Accounting (Graduate or Postgraduate).
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, including 3+ years in Donor Finance Management.
  • Experience in not-for-profit organizations is an advantage.
  • Experience with multi-currency transactions and analytical accounting.

Skills & Competencies:

✔ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
✔ Ability to manage budgets and financial reports efficiently.
✔ Experience with Navision/Business Central (advantageous).
✔ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
✔ Effective communication and teamwork in multicultural environments.
✔ Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
