The AINSE Postgraduate Research Award (PGRA) consists of a A$9,000 per annum stipend (increased as of 1st July 2023) given to students studying their Ph.D. at an AINSE Member University. 

The Award also provides additional funding to support students travelling to ANSTO facilities for the purposes of their research.

When is the Application Deadline?

The deadline for applications is 15 April 2025 at 11:59 PM AEST. Applications open on 1 February 2025.

The AINSE Postgraduate Research Award (PGRA) is a top-up scholarship that provides up to AUD 9,000 per year to PhD students who are already funded through an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship or equivalent. It supports travel and research costs related to projects requiring access to ANSTO’s world-class nuclear science and technology facilities.

Which Fields are Eligible?

PhD research in the following fields is eligible:

  • Nuclear Science & Technology
  • Materials Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Radiation Research
  • Health & Medical Applications of Nuclear Science
  • Other research requiring ANSTO’s expertise

Type:

  • Partial Funding (Top-Up Scholarship)
  • Research Travel & Support Grant

Who can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a PhD program at an AINSE Member University.
  • Hold an RTP scholarship or an equivalent PhD funding.
  • Have a research project that requires access to ANSTO’s facilities and expertise.
