Tell Me About The ILA Leadership Development Training:
The IGAD Leadership Academy (ILA) invites applications for a comprehensive leadership development training program aimed at equipping young leaders from the IGAD region with critical skills to address governance challenges and drive transformation. The training is designed to develop visionary, ethical, and gender-responsive leaders who will contribute to positive change in the IGAD region. With support from the Government of Japan, the program will take place in three cohorts in 2025 at the Kenya School of Government in Mombasa, Kenya. The training will focus on specialized aspects of leadership, including governance, peacebuilding, technology, and gender-responsive leadership.

Who can Apply for the ILA Leadership Development Training?
To be eligible, applicants are to meet the following criteria:
- Age: 18-35 years
- Bachelorโs degree or equivalent experience in governance, leadership, or related fields
- Proficiency in English (as the training will be conducted in English)
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical leadership, regional cooperation, and sustainable development
- Proven leadership experience and strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel to Kenya for the training period
- Commitment to engage actively in ILA activities and future alumni engagements
How are Applicants Selected?
The training is open to women and youth from IGAD Member States who meet the eligibility criteria. Applicants will be selected through a merit-based process, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will prioritize candidates who have shown a strong interest in policy, good governance, and sustainable peace, with a proven record of making a positive impact in their communities and countries.

- A detailed CV (maximum three pages)
- A motivation letter (maximum two pages or 1,000 words) outlining:
- Why you are inspired to apply and how the program aligns with your leadership goals
- Past leadership roles and initiatives with impact
- A specific leadership-related challenge you aim to address in your country or region
- How you plan to use the knowledge gained to tackle the challenge
- Two recommendation letters from professional and/or academic referees
