Tell Me About The Taiwan Fellowship Program:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) established the โ€œTaiwan Fellowshipโ€ in 2010 to encourage international experts and scholars with an interest in Taiwan, cross-strait relations, China, the Asia-Pacific region, and Sinology to conduct research at Taiwanโ€™s universities and academic institutions. This includes research related to key government policies such as comprehensive diplomacy, regional security, countering disinformation, science and technology diplomacy, and global supply chain resilience.

Who can Apply for the Taiwan Fellowship Program?

Applicants should be foreign faculty members, associate professors, assistant professors, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or doctoral students in academic institutions whose research fields focus on Taiwan, cross-strait relations, China, the Asia-Pacific region, or Sinology in the social sciences and humanities.

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants are evaluated based on:

  • Their academic background and qualifications
  • The quality and relevance of their research proposal
  • Their potential contribution to Taiwan-related studies
  • Recommendation letters from credible academic sources

Applicants must submit:

  • Online application form (generated from the Taiwan Fellowship website)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV), including a list of publications
  • Research Proposal (three pages in English, adhering to academic research standards)
  • Two recommendation letters or one recommendation letter and one consent letter from the highest administrative authority of the applicantโ€™s institution

The Taiwan Fellowship is open to international scholars. Researchers from the Czech Republic are particularly encouraged to apply.

What is the Benefit of the Taiwan Fellowship Program?

Additionally, the benefits include:

  • Research Grant
  • (a) Professors, Associate Professors, Researchers, or Associate Researchers: NT$60,000 per month.
    (b) Assistant Professors, Assistant Researchers, Post-doctoral Researchers, Doctoral Candidates, and Doctoral Students: NT$50,000 per month.
  • One round-trip economy class airfare (the maximum fare for Europe is NT$60,000).
  • Group accident insurance during the research period in Taiwan, with coverage of NT$1,000,000 (including accident medical insurance coverage of NT$50,000).
  • The fellowship duration is a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year.

How to Apply:

  • Step 1: Complete the online application on the Taiwan Fellowship website (http://taiwanfellowship.ncl.edu.tw/eng/apply01.aspx) by June 30, 2025 (Home > Apply > Application Procedure).
  • Step 2: Submit the following documents by July 1, 2025 (based on the postmark date) to the โ€œTaipei Economic and Cultural Office, Prague (TECO)โ€ (please note โ€œApplication for the 2026 Taiwan Fellowshipโ€ on the envelope; address: Evropskรก 33C, 160 00 Praha 6). The final list of selected applicants is estimated to be announced in early November 2025.
  • The applicantโ€™s data form produced by the online application system
  • Curriculum Vitae (including a publication list)
  • Research Proposal (three pages in English, written according to academic research standards)
  • Two recommendation letters or one recommendation letter and one consent letter from the highest administrative authority of the applicantโ€™s institution.
