Tell Me About The CICOPS Research Scholarships 2026:

The CICOPS Scholarships, offered by the University of Pavia and EDiSU (Institute of the Right to University Studies), aim to foster international cooperation, particularly with developing countries. These scholarships provide visiting scholars with the opportunity to engage in short-term research collaboration at the University of Pavia for a period of 4 to 12 weeks. The program is designed to encourage mobility among researchers and strengthen academic ties between Pavia and institutions in developing nations.

Who can Apply for the CICOPS Research Scholarships 2026?

The eligibility criteria include:

  • Applicants must have at least two years of either teaching experience or activity within international organisations and institutions. 
  • Scholarships are designed for both junior and senior members of Universities in Developing Countries or members of major research centres and international organisations or institutions with specific interest in the field of development studies. 
  • CICOPS scholarships are reserved for research collaboration in the short term in order to encourage the mobility of researchers from developing countries. 
  • Applicants enrolled in a Doctoral or Postgraduate Course at an Italian University are not eligible to apply. For further information, please refer to the FAQ section on the website. 

How are Applicants Selected?

In the issuing of the ranking, the Committee will take into account: 

  • The scientific relevance of the proposed project, especially when integrated with similar projects developed by the University of Pavia; 
  • the Curriculum Vitae of the candidate; 
  • the fair distribution of grants between the department involved and the geographical regions of origin of the applicants

In the case of scientific and professional value being equal, preference will be given to: 

  • Applicants from lower income economies, according to the World Bank list; 
  • Applicants employed by Universities/Institutions linked to the University of Pavia with a preexisting Cooperation Agreement (See: International Agreements – MoUs) 
  • Applicants formally introduced to the Selection Committee by an Honorary Consul, member of the UCOI and UCOIM associations, linked to the University of Pavia with a Cooperation Agreement.

  • Curriculum vitae ideally in European format with a list of publications (file to be named: Surname_Name_CV) 
  • Invitation letter from the professor or researcher with whom you intend to collaborate 1 (file to be named: Surname_Name_Letter)

What is the Benefit of the CICOPS Research Scholarships 2025?

Additionally, the benefits include: 

  • Travel expenses (return flight ticket in economy class).
  • Accommodation at a University College in Pavia.
  • Meals at University canteens.
  • Health insurance and personal accident insurance.
  • A financial contribution of €150 per week (gross).

How Long Will the Award Last?

4 to 12 weeks.

How to Apply:

  • Before applying, candidates must obtain an invitation letter from a professor at the University of Pavia.
  • If the applicant does not have an academic contact, they should write to the CICOPS office to request a research proposal form.
  • The proposal will be evaluated for alignment with research activities at the University of Pavia.
  • Once the invitation letter is received, applicants can proceed with the online application.
  • Incomplete applications, especially those without an invitation letter, will be rejected.
