About the Award: The ISAKOS Global Traveling Fellowship is a new initiative intended to foster the international exchange of knowledge and skills in the field of sports orthopaedic surgery. The Fellowship is coordinated by the Traveling Fellowship Committee and the ISAKOS office. It will provide the opportunity for five orthopaedic surgeons, under the age of 45, to travel with an ISAKOS Godfather to the Godfather’s geographic region. They will visit up to six medical centers over 14 to 16 days, before attending the ISAKOS Biennial Congress.
At each center, the fellows will have the opportunity to observe sports orthopaedic surgeries performed by highly respected surgeons, to discuss not only the surgical procedures but all aspects of patient management, and to discuss and share research experience. At each center, each fellow and the Godfather will be expected to present a short scientific paper from a list of three such papers provided by each fellow.

Number of Awards: One applicant will be selected from each of the following regions: North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa/Middle East, and the region of the upcoming ISAKOS Congress (South America). The 2019 Godfather will be from South America.
Value of Award:The Fellowship will cover economy class air travel for the fellowship, including return from the ISAKOS Congress. Local hosts will cover accommodation, meals and local transportation costs. ISAKOS will waive registration fees for the ISAKOS Congress. Total reimbursement will be up to US$8,000 for the four continental regions, and up to US$5,000 for the Congress region.
Fellows must document their travels, present a summary at the ISAKOS Congress, and write a report of the experience for publication in the ISAKOS Newsletter.
Duration of Programme: Applicants must be available to travel for up to 16 days prior to, and to attend the 12th Biennial ISAKOS Congress in Cancun, Mexico on May 12-16, 2019.

Important Notes: Individuals are only permitted to receive one award or fellowship per Congress, per abstract. ISAKOS award recipients, if not already an ISAKOS Member, are required to become an ISAKOS Member prior to receiving their award. One year of Membership dues will waived.
