The Niger Delta Scholarship commission was started on June 5, the year 2000 by the then president of Nigeria, President Olusegun Obasanjo. The scholarship started as a means to make Niger Delta into a region that is economically and socially stable. There were a lot of youths who didn’t have the resources to further their education and so this Scholarship commission was created to empower these brilliant students to achieve their dreams of studying and becoming more useful to their community and country at large.

Niger Delta Commission (In Relation to the Scholarships They Offer).

The Niger Delta commission was established to offer Nigerian students from niger Delta states the opportunity to study for a master’s or postgraduate degree. NDDC was established in 2000 with the mission of facilitating the rapid, even and sustainable development of the Niger Delta into a region that is economically prosperous, socially stable, ecologically regenerative and politically peaceful.

NDDC Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship 2019 for Nigerian Students to Study Abroad for Masters and PhD: this Scholarship Programme is for Niger Delta indigenes to equip them with relevant training and skills for effective participation in the Local Content programme of the current Administration as well as compete globally in various professional fields. The scholarship award is for qualified applicants who have a relevant Bachelor’s/Master’s Degrees from recognized Universities in these various professional disciplines: Engineering, Agricultural Science, Law, Medical Sciences, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Management sciences, ICT, Education and Humanities.

Niger Delta Joint Scholarship Programme

The Niger Delta joint Scholarship programme is open to citizens from the following States; Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ondo, Abia, Imo and Edo.  Below are listed the eligibility criteria for the joint Scholarship programme. All successful applicants who registered will be required to produce original copies of their educational Certificates, Local Government identification certificates and other documents before the final selection of the NDJs Scholarship award.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicants must be an indigene of any of the following states: Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ondo, Abia, Imo and Edo
• Applicants must be at least a holder of SSCE Certificate, and for undergraduates, matric number must be submitted during the application
• All interested applicants must be from the Niger Delta region
• All data should be entered correctly as requested on the web portal.
• Each applicant is expected to complete just one form only as multiple applications will attract automatic disqualification from the program.

Niger Delta Scholarships to Study In Nigeria and Overseas

SHELL Nigeria Students Scholarship Schemes: The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), offers Scholarships every year to merit students to further their education. This Postgraduate Scholarship is mainly for applicants from Niger Delta states; Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers states. The objective of the scholarship programme is to provide postgraduate study opportunities in courses that are relevant to the oil and gas industry, for qualifying students from these Niger Delta states. In the eight years, this programme has started, over 79 students have won the opportunity to study at top-rated universities in the UK on a full scholarship. The shell petroleum Scholarship is in partnership with three universities in the UK; Imperial College London, University of Leeds and University of Aberdeen.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must display sound intellectual ability and leadership potential.
• Applicants must meet the individual university’s English Language requirements Applicants must be between the ages of 21-28 years by the time of application.
• Applicants must be currently resided in Nigeria and must be an indigene of Rivers, Delta, Imo or Bayelsa states.
• Applicants must have obtained a university degree
• Applicants must not have studied previously in the UK or any other developed country

This Scholarship Programme is for citizens of Niger Delta states. The scholarship offers post-graduate studies to students who have obtained their first degree and wish to study more. The scholarship then equips the students with relevant training and skills.  The scholarship award is for qualified applicants who have a relevant Bachelor’s/Master’s Degrees from recognized Universities in these various professional disciplines: Engineering, Agricultural Science, Law, Medical Sciences, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Management sciences, ICT, Education and Humanities.

Eligibility and criteria

• Applicants must be a citizen of Nigeria and also an indigene of Niger Delta states.
• Applicants must have obtained a first degree or masters degree from a recognized university in Nigeria
• Applicants must be willing to return to Nigeria after his or her studies
• Applicants must not have previously studied in the UK or other developed countries.
• Applicants must have completed the compulsory one-year NYSC program.
