About OFID Scholarship

OFID stands for OPEC-Fund for International Development. The scholarship is funded by member countries of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries). Target recipients are students who are about to wind up or have already wounded up their undergraduate program at the University. The prize for winning this scholarship is a $50,000 sum to sustain you for a Master’s degree fund.

However, applicants must be individuals who are non-citizens of OPEC countries (Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Republic of the Congo, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela). OFID Scholarship Awards for International Students

The four winners of the scholarship will be awarded $50,000 each as a school fee for a Masters Degree Programme that runs for one year in an accredited University or College. However, the fund will be disbursed towards the completion of your Master’s Degree program.

The fund is dissected as follows; some part that will settle a one-time flight from your address to your school. Tuition. Health insurance while at school. Relocation grant to assist you if needs to relocate arise.

Eligibility Criteria

• Be between 23-32 age bracket on the day the scholarship application form was submitted to Board.
• A Bachelor’s Degree, or be on the tip of completing a Bachelor’s Degree from a Government approved University or College.
• Meet the minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 grading system, or the equivalent of it.
• Must celebrate matriculation in an approved University or College in the coming academic session, and also study as a full-time student and not part-time during the course of the Master’s Degree Programme.
• Be a citizen of a developing country; and not even developed countries. N/B; citizens of OPEC member countries are not qualified to apply ( countries such as Angola, Algeria, Gabon, Libya, Nigeria, Kuwait, Equatorial Guinea, Venezuela, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, DR Congo, Qatar, Iran, Iraq ).
• Studied an Undergraduate program or be studying an Undergraduate Programme that is linked to OFID’s mission such as; Economics of Development ( poverty reduction, energy, and sustainable development ), Environment ( desertification ), related Science and Technology programs.

What It Entails To Be an OFID Scholar

To be an OFID scholar, it implies you will be receiving a grand $50,000 for an approved application. This award is intended as a tuition fee to guide you in beginning and concluding an excellent Master’s Degree Programme in any field that aligns with the mission of OPEC countries.

How to Apply

If you are sure you met all the criteria for the scholarship, you can proceed to apply online by registering and filling an online application form. Relevant documents will also be scanned to their address.

All relevant documents include;

1. A filled online application form.
2. One copy of your transcripts from the last academic institution you attended for your undergraduate degree.
3. Proofs of meeting criteria for application. Language proficiency test results can be made available too.
4. A 500 word-length essay written by you in English that describes the reasons why you are applying for the OFID scholarship. The essay is expected to highlight your academic missions, and describe in detail how you will utilize the experience garnered over your Master’s Degree program in the development of the society where you find yourself.
5. Two letters of recommendation signed by different Professors, or Lecturers who teach in the school of your Master’s Degree choice.
6. A Curriculum Vitae (CV).
