Schlumberger Foundation

The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future programme is a programme that supports women from developing countries who wish to advance their studies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at prestigious universities globally.

It also encourages community development through in-person forums, with the aim of creating an international community of women leaders who will act as change agents in their home countries, as well as, support scientific development.

The programme is available for women from developing countries to pursue postdoctoral studies in STEM disciplines at top universities abroad.

Benefit of the Scholarship

The worth of the Faculty for the Future grants is up to a maximum sum of $50,000 and a minimum of $40,000 per annum. It is also renewable through the completion of the studies which is subject to self-evaluation, performance, evidence of reintegration plans into the home country and a recommendation from the supervisors (host and home universities supervisors). In other words, the renewal of the grant is not automatic.

Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship

For applicants to be eligible, they must meet the following criteria:

• Are female citizens of an emerging economy or a developing country. Intending applicants with dual citizenship are not eligible.
• Are preparing for a PhD or postdoctoral studies in the engineering, physical science and related discipline.
• Are enrolled, admitted or applied to a host university abroad when submitting the application. You are not eligible if you are yet to apply for admission.
• Have a proven track record of teaching experience.
• Have a top-notch in academic performance.
• Are willing to contribute to the development of the home country socially and economically, by strengthening the faculties, pursuing relevant research and/or using their expertise to address issues of public concern.
• Are willing to return to home country upon the completion of studies.
• Have the ability to show active involvement in faculty life and outreach programmes for the encouragement of young women in STEM.
• Must meet the English language requirements for a university scholarship.

Note that the Schlumberger employees are not eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship focuses only on developing emerging economies. All applicants are expected to find their host universities and a host university supervisor themselves. There is no accredited list of universities, therefore, you are advised to apply to the best university abroad in your field of study. During the decision process, the host university will be taken into consideration. The grant may be extended to the child of the applicant under certain conditions.

 If your application is unsuccessful, it could be that:

• Your application is incomplete or of low quality.
• You failed to meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship.
• You have insufficient evidence of commitment to home country universities, research or other institutions.
• Your level of qualification may not be a PhD level.

How to Apply for the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Grants

Applicants who did not meet the eligibility criteria are advised not to apply as their application will not be retained during the selection process.

The mode of application is online system. Applicants are chosen through rigorous testing and process based on academic performance, outstanding references, the relevance of research, commitment to teachings and ability to be a change agent and inspiration to young women in STEM pursuits.
