The number of international students choosing to study in Turkey has witnessed a significant upsurge the past few years. Currently, there are around hundreds of thousands of foreign students in Turkey, signaling the country’s growing importance as a higher education destination.

Motivations for study in Turkey include the opportunity to gain a relatively inexpensive and good quality education, with opportunities for scholarships that also pay a monthly allowance, covering accommodation and tuition fees, health insurance and travel expenses.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees vary according to whether the university is private or publicly funded, its location and the course chosen.

At state universities, semester fees may be as little as around 300 USD, while at private universities tuition fees can reach thousands.

Information about tuition fees is best sought directly from the institution you wish to apply. Private universities’ fees are more expensive than state institutions’ and postgraduate study is more expensive than undergraduate study.

Estimated Cost of Living

An average international student in Turkey will spend about 400-500 USD a month on accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, transportation and telephone costs. Books and administrative fees are approximately 100-150 USD per semester. Remember, though, that this figure depends on your location, lifestyle and which degree course you attend. You should seek further information on living costs from your institution directly.
